At the end of September Jocelyn celebrated her 6th birthday and requested pink "cake pops" and hot chocolate (like starbucks) and only girls to attend her birthday party. We just had a simple playdate with several of her friends and my parents were able to come into town to help out and have her requested family dinner and outing to fro-yo delite.
She wanted a "guitar" birthday which I had no idea how to deliver, but luckily Target had some paper products on clearance that fit the bill, starbucks kindly donated kids hot chocolate cups when I went to buy some from them, and Ross had a rock star guitar at a killer price. Nothing like some last minute bail-outs! My mom also helped me put together little snacks in Ikea shot glasses that turned out cute and were a big hit with the kids. We had ranch dip with carrots, yogurt and berries, caramel with apple slices, peanut butter with celery and ketchup with french fries. They were so simple and just the right size!
That weekend, since my parents were in town, we met up with my aunt, uncle and cousins to go apple picking at Gizdich ranch. It's not as extensive or comprehensive as Apple Hill where I grew up going, but the kids were able to pick some apples, watch a cider press, eat some apple pie and have a picnic, so it worked. It was fun to get together with everyone and then have the whole crew come see our new house afterward. My mom even bailed me out this last weekend and canned my applesauce for me when we were visiting for conference!
Lillian began a pre-ballet class with her good friend Mackenzie and has really enjoyed that. It works well because we can swap taking them, or just visit in the lobby while the girls are in class and they love it! They probably visit too much during class, but they are learning a few things and having fun so that's important.
Jocelyn continues to enjoy her soccer games (once she gets there). The meltdowns before hand are another story...She is also a #2 jersey like her Aunt Kelsey's soccer jersey so she is thrilled with that. Last Saturday morning Jared had signed up to clean the church, but needed to be there at 7 am. The girls really wanted to go with him but he told them he wasn't going to wake them up that early. Wouldn't you know, they walked in our room 2 minutes before his alarm went off at 6:45 and said "we're ready!" They knew they could talk him into getting donuts afterward and it was worth the sleep sacrifice. I told Jocelyn to save some of the donut for after the game because grease doesn't mix well with exercise.
Well we went to the game where she scored 2 goals and was doing awesome. Her coach told her "Wow! What did you eat this morning?" probably hoping for an answer like wheaties, but instead she told him "a donut!" to which he gave me a puzzling look and I had to inform him that, sadly, it was the truth. She is now trying to convince us she needs a donut before every game. Her coach also told her "You're on fire today!" as a compliment, but they had just had a fire drill at school that week and for family home evening we talked about our fire emergency plan for the new house and she had fire on her mind and was very confused as to how she was on fire!
We were able to go up to my parent's house for general conference weekend and Columbus day (a day off school here) and it was such a nice break. I'm pretty sure I slept as much as I was awake while my mom cooked and cleaned up after us, even making us cinnamon rolls. Jared tried to make up for that
by helping her refinish her kitchen table which she has been wanting to do, but it was a nice break to gear up for another week. I am glad we have them close again! I am now almost 2 weeks away from my due date and really feeling it!
