Fall Fun

Over the long weekend in October, Jared's sisters and I decided to take our kids up to Logan to stay in my Grammy's cabin and enjoy the Pumpkin Walk, the duck pond at First Dam, Aggie Ice Cream and playing at Aunt Lori's house.  It was such a great quick getaway and cousin get-together.  Logan is beautiful in the Fall! A couple weekends later Jocelyn, Emma and I went up to Logan again to help host a bridal shower for Kelsey and to assist Tausha taking the engagement photos for Kelsey and Josh.  My mom was even able to come into town for a long weekend to be there for the bridal shower and to spend some time with us.  It was so fun to see her! The bridal shower turned out lovely in every regard. Everyone was so generous and it was so fun to see all the ladies on my Dad's side of the family.  They are such exemplary women and I love to catch up with them.  Jonas and Lillian both had games that were going to be tough to miss so we decided to divide and conquer!  They stayed home with Jared and went to Leatherby's and stake conference.

We decided to combine our turn with hosting Sunday Dinner for Jared's family with our annual Spooktaular Dinner, Emma's Birthday and Jonas's Birthday.  Everyone was such good sports to dress up on Halloween Eve with us!  To celebrate Emma's birthday the day of, she had Preschool so we sent little gift bags to all her friends there then went to Zupa's as a family for dinner since her favorite thing to eat is their Cauliflower soup.  Jonas chose to go to pizza studio and had playdates before and after school with his friends.  Of course, they both were spoiled with Breakfast in Bed.  I cannot believe they are getting so big!

For Family Home evening activity one night we went to a local pumpkin patch. It was pretty disappointing after all our years at Uesugi's in Morgan Hill :(  I told the kids they had to be able to carry their own pumpkins (which I figured would limit the size, price and furthermore, the pain of carving).  They had a hay bale ride, some tractors and a small corn maze which was fun.

I finally finished one corner of the Bonus room: A Kids Reading nook.  Thanks to my mom and SIL Tausha for helping me make the sign and the cushions, and of course Jared's handy shelves. I am pretty excited about it!  We got our first snow of the season. It was so magical to wake up to this scene in our backyard.  For Thanksgiving we joined Jared's mom's family for a delicious meal where 60 people were there to share and partake!  Even though none of Jared's siblings were there, the kids have second cousins around their age so it worked out fine. The day before Thanksgiving we also hosted a Thanksgiving craft and playdate with our friends from CA who have also moved to UT. It had been a while since getting together.

The day after Thanksgiving we put up our Christmas decorations which was a little tricky in a new house...And Jared even put lights up on the house. We are feeling very festive!  We also were able to host the Kauffmans for dinner.  I grew up with Jessica and we got married the same year as she and Dave so our kids are all very close in age. It was so fun to have them come over while they were in town visiting family.

Kid Update

Jocelyn is busy these days with school, piano and dance class.  She was awarded Student of the Month by her teacher in September which was very exciting. Emma and I were able to surprise her for the assembly at school to see her given the award.  Jocelyn, Lillian and Emma are taking dance class at a studio not too far away, in part due to the generosity of their aunt who teaches at the same studio.  They have really enjoyed it.  For her birthday, Jocelyn was able to get her ears pierced and she also was able to take a cake decorating class with Lillian at Jo-Ann's.  She jumped back in to piano with a teacher nearby and it works out great to do piano lessons in the morning before school.
Jocelyn, Lillian and I have been participating in the local library "Mother-Daughter" book club wherein we read one novel every month and go participate in the discussion, craft and goodie at the library. It has been so much fun. We had to miss the most recent discussion because Activity Girls was the same night, but overall we have loved being able to trade the books around and got to the activity together.

Lillian was baptized back in August and it was a perfect day! Great weather, tons of family (about 60 people over for a brunch at our house following the event), and a wonderful baptism and confirmation by Jared.  Since she turned 8, Lillian can now attend Activity Day Girls at church and loves it.  Here she is making some bookmarks one night with all the girls.  Lillian is also taking dance class and piano lessons with Jocelyn and even wanted to sign up for a volleyball league. It has been so fun to see how far her team has progressed since the first game.  They even came around on the last game this weekend and beat the team that had schooled them previously in the season. Lillian also had her good friend Nora from Morgan Hill fly in to visit family but we got to keep her for almost a day so they could catch up.  It was so fun to see them together again!

Jonas started his "Let's Play Music" class and I think I might love it more than he does-it is packed with musical theory and auditory skills and is a playful, non pressure intro to music! Here is is with his teacher.  The moms go every other class and it seems like a good balance so I know how to help him with homework, but he also gets his independence. Jonas played a round of outdoor soccer and a quick round of indoor soccer and loved both. He was about a head taller than the other pre-k kids on his indoor team so he scored quite a bit and did pretty good with his ball handling. For his Birthday, in lieu of bringing treats, he was allowed to gift a book to his class, so here he is on the hot seat opening the book for his class.  He has made good friends with Han & Madi, a set of twins in his class who also happen to be the piano teacher's kids so that has been a fun connection.  Jonas has been waiting and waiting to lose his first tooth and he FINALLY had a loose tooth and lost it on the first day.  He couldn't have been more thrilled.  Jonas has been busy making books lately. He made one for everyone in the family and a couple friends. He is not fully reading yet, but getting closer and closer all the time.

Emma is as much of a spitfire as ever now that she is 4.  We found this Anna dress (Frozen) on a Halloween clearance sale and since it was her birthday she was pretty sure she needed to get it and wore it for 5 days straight!  She has rotated around now with a hand-me-down dance costume and the rapunzel dress up, but for a while it was Anna or bust!  I always tell my kids I am happy to get them a tissue, rather than them wiping boogers on my walls or carpet so Emma lately will say "Mom! I need a tissue" while she is holding a booger on her finger (eww) so I will kindly get her a tissue.  About a month ago she told me this while I was in the middle of picking the kids up from school so I told her to hang on for just a minute and I would get her a tissue.  She told me a minute later "Don't worry, mom. I put it back in my nose!"  She was done holding that thing and was not going to wait a minute!
She participated in a dance performance and I had no idea how it would go down since she is really silly about taking dance. She begged me to take it but gets shy when I drop her off and I cannot stay and watch or she just comes out to me in the hall so Jonas and I usually leave the girls at dance and go run an errand or practice his music in the car.  Well, she was front row and did awesome on her performance!  When we had our Halloween decorations out, somehow we adopted this plastic rat for a little while from Kelsey.  Jocelyn tried to trick me with it putting it by the back door, which did not really work, then Jonas put it under Emma's pillow.  When she got tricked she was mad, telling Jonas "You are NOT the best brother!"  But the next night she came up to me while I was getting kids ready for bed and told me "Mom, there is nothing in your bed, and it is NOT a rat!" She thought she was being so tricky hiding it in my bed and "not" telling me it was there! Ha! We all got a good laugh out of it.
