Happy Birthday Lillian and Goodbye Otters

Lillian turned 5 this month and acts every bit the part. She was ready to be five! We are doing "family" birthdays this year so that simplified life a little for me!  She requested the usual breakfast in bed (she chose fruit loops because that was the only cereal with a monster's inc. toy inside).  We had a great day at church (Lillian actually gave a talk in front of the children's primary congregation), followed by her requested "breakfast dinner", a purple polka-dot husky cake, a family bike ride and presents throughout the day.  The highlights were a purple polka dot snake from Nate and Tausha, a karaoke machine from Greg and Maren, a bike from Dad and Mom and a best-friend necklace from Jocelyn.  Grandparents were generous, as always, and she had a great day.

One of the sad parts of summer ending is that we had to say goodbye to Greg and Maren since they had to get back to real life after Greg's internship ended.  We all felt the loss for the next week as we sat down to dinner, especially, because that's when we would usually be all together during the day.  I sure missed having Maren to stay with a napping kid, or keep a potty-training kid at home with her while running errands and also sharing stories and cooking.  We're crossing our fingers and hoping they are going to come back for another internship or even a full time job opportunity.  They were headed to Disneyland on their way home so the kids all picked a couple characters that they were supposed to say "hi" to.  They were such good sports to put up with our crazy life for the last 10 weeks. Love you guys!
