We came home Friday from the hospital to some wonderful home made signs on the door from Jocelyn including drawings of our whole family (so cute) and a very excited Lillian glad that we "finally brought her baby home." My mom had been home with the girls and we are so glad to have her here until Wednesday helping us out. We have a couple day gap and then Jared's mom comes to help the following Saturday so we feel very fortunate!
I had purchased a $12 little wooden rocking chair as a gift that Jonas could give the girls when he was born, so we let them open that so they could rock their dolls as I rocked baby Jonas in my rocking chair. Lillian sat right in the chair and said "okay, I want to hold my baby." I handed her the little doll she likes the best to which she responded "No, I want my baby!" Jared helped her rock Jonas in there for the 5 seconds that she lasted.
Lillian feels like Jonas is a kindred spirit since he's worn outfits with little puppies on them for the past couple days. She loves puppies and keeps telling us that Jonas loves them too, so we wholeheartedly confirm and agree with her. I fed Jonas that first day and started patting his back to burp him. Lillian was watching the whole thing and told me "Mom! Don't hit the baby!" followed by a little song that we sing at Joy School "We never hit or kick or push" that the girls like to sing, but not always obey. It was pretty cute. She was definitely watching out for Jonas.
Jocelyn is so excited to finally have her little brother here and tells anyone that asks about him "He's so tiny and he loves me soooo much!" She sat for 40 minutes holding him on the couch yesterday with my mom's assistance and just loves assisting with every diaper change, bath and event. She is doing pretty well at respecting the rules of not touching his face and hands or giving him an extra push in his swing, but just loves to take care of him at the same time.
I am feeling really great and trying to get back in "newborn" mode. Within a time frame of an hour and a half yesterday I got my first front row viewing of a "waterworks show" since I had apparently not put Jonas' new diaper on fast enough, followed by a mysterious urine leak all over the couch despite having a dry diaper and an outfit on, and two poopy diapers (one of which was halfway through the diaper change and got the changing pad all covered). Amazing! And I thought I was doing a lot of laundry before-now I have a potty training 2 year old and a newborn to keep up with.
This was actually a perfect weekend to come home since the girls were gone for a couple hours both Friday and Saturday evenings at Halloween parties, and 3 hours this morning at church. It gives us good quiet time while they are out of the house getting worn out, and I am able to rest sufficiently with both my mom and Jared taking care of everything. We are so excited to have our handsome little man join our family. I feel spoiled so far as he seems really easy going!
I'm in love with his name! great choice. Cute "puppies" story... it's easy to find little boy things these days with puppies on it so I'm sure Lilly will be pleased with "her baby" for a long time!
ReplyDeleteIt is an adjustment getting used to changing a boy isn't it? :)
ReplyDeleteHe is beautiful! Love the name.
OOOHhh I love hearing all these details I haven't heard yet!!! Thanks for sharing. Good luck keeping up with all the diaper changing! I love how helpful the girls are. The singing of the joy school song about not hitting when you were burping him is hilarious. I wish I could be there to burp him!!! I do love the name Jonas Nathan. I kept trying to talk Jeff into Nathan as a middle name for one of ours. Man, we love you guys. Talk to you soon.
