The Tea Party
The girls had been talking about throwing a tea party for a while now, so I figured we would take the plunge. Earlier this month we had 5 of their girlfriends over for a "princess tea party." We busted out my tea set that has been in storage since I got married and I had Jocelyn and Lillian help with the invites, cleaning, prepping the food, etc. so they could learn what it meant to be a hostess. They served Fruit kabobs, cheese cubes and ham spirals for appetizers with the herbal tea. I put cream and sugar on the table and some of the girls were putting three heaping spoonfuls of sugar into one little cup of tea. It was cracking me up, but you could tell they felt very grown up. This was followed by 3 types of sandwiches (of course with frilly toothpicks in each). For dessert we had chocolate fondue with all the fixings. Each of the girls dressed in their princess costumes complete with tiaras and we read fancy Nancy, Tea for Ruby and then handed out little party favors at the end (luckily Walgreens had all their Valentine stuff for 90% off). The girls seemed to have a grand time and I’m sure it will be something we do again!
We all scream for ice cream!
The other night we went to dollar scoop night at Baskin Robbins and it was delicious! Especially since it only cost $4 for our whole family. We used to go all the time when we lived in Dixon. We would push Jocelyn’s stroller down and get her a cone with no ice cream while Jared and I enjoyed our dollar scoops, but we haven’t been in years. The girls were so excited and Lillian picked out a flavor called “wild & reckless” which was very colorful and very sour. She kept doing a whole body shudder when she would put a spoonful in her mouth (I’m assuming because it was so sour), but she finished nearly the entire cone. Now that takes dedication! This is actually a picture of her drying to blow a dandelion for good luck, but I thought it showed the same type of concentration it took for her to finish that ice cream cone.
Luck O' the Irish
For St. Patrick’s day we got all decked out in green and went to library story time with a leprechaun craft, then had a festive dinner. Jared was working a little later than usual as his company was hosting their March Madness party (where they were going to be feeding him the whole day anyway), so my friend and I got together with the kids (since their Dad was going to be working super late that day as well). We had Green bean casserole, pistachio pudding salad, chicken cordon “green”, lime sherbet drinks, green grapes and finished off with a leprechaun treasure hunt. Apparently the boys had been setting leprechaun traps the whole week, with no luck in catching one, if you can believe it! They were so thrilled that a leprechaun had left a treasure hunt for them at our house! Those leprechauns are so tricky...(Jocelyn must have lost her green belt and accessories by the time we took this picture :)
Oh they are all so cute! I just want to hug and kiss them!
ReplyDeleteShe is trying so hard to blow that dandelion. I love it! And all your green food sounds delicious. I lucked out and will get to have a second corned beef dinner tonight at the Gabby's house. I'm so excited!
ReplyDeletethanks for hosting the party. We all had a lot of fun. They still were talking all about it when they finally got to see their dad. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteHow funny - I have just been dreaming up a tea party for Taya & girlfriends too. Great idea to have them help plan/execute it. I think I'll make this happen now & have Taya help too!
ReplyDeleteBtw, would you want to email me that picture of Lilly? I would love to dr. it up in photoshop b/c it's such a great photo & I think you'd love it that much more afterward. If you want, you can send me another favorite as well without the silly face if you're anti-silly face moments in photos - and I would happily do that one too :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully this all made sense!
And, on another note, that photo Jessica took in the garden is beautiful.
