Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day & May Play

This last month I seem to be feeling a step better with my morning sickness so that is MUCH appreciated.  It’s not absolutely critical that I have a nap every day, but I still gag when I brush my teeth and feel nauseous quite a bit.  Jocelyn asked the other day “Mom, will you feel not as sick when you have the baby?” to which I responded “Yeah, I won’t be as sick, but then I will just be tired all the time and a little sore from having the baby.”  To which Jared added: “And she’ll spend a lot of time taking care of and feeding the baby and she’ll need a lot of help.”  It probably didn’t sound like a good trade off to Jocelyn, but it’s still worth the trade off to me, especially if I'm cuddling a new born!

Mother's Day included:Sleeping In (until 8, which was great except that we all had to rush to get out the door for 9 am church), a nap, crepes with fruit & cream and other breakfast goods made by Jared and the girls. Two bouquets of wildflowers and cards from the kids. I am so grateful to be a mom and have to work every day (and hope and pray) that I can be the mom that my kids deserve!

Jared and Jonas went to the Father & Son’s camp-out last weekend.  Well, I guess they only went for the evening then came home and slept because Jared has been having allergies and Jonas had a runny nose last week, but they seemed to have a good time.  Us girls joined our girl friends for dinner out and then coming back to our house to paint nails.  The girls were SOO crazy at the restaurant, but it was still a lot of fun.
The girls in one set of skirts Nana made them.

Jocelyn has a loose tooth which she is in NO hurry to remove.  She was telling me for a while: “I can’t eat apples because I don’t want my tooth to fall out!” (her friend Caleb had that happen TWICE with loose teeth and she’s convinced it’s a sure-fire way to make your tooth come out).  She wants me to be careful brushing her teeth and she tries as hard as she can NOT to wiggle it.  It’s pretty funny.

Lilly has really been into name calling lately and saying potty words and I feel like we’ve tried the whole spectrum: Ignoring the bad behavior (which didn’t seem to work and then Jocelyn would have a fit that I wasn’t taking any action), putting her on a time out, putting her up in her room, asking her nicely to stop, asking her in a mean way to stop, etc ., etc.  I am pretty fed up with it and trying to see what will work for her.

Jonas is really into saying “yeah” no matter what question we have asked him and it can make for some funny situations . The girls will trick him by saying “Is mommy your favorite snack?” or if they are trying to get the majority vote “Jonas, you want the same thing I want, right” to which he, of course, responds “yeah.”  And other such shenanigans.  He also really likes to “roar” and whenever he sees a dinosaur, lion, or pretty much any other big animal he will do a big scary “roar” and want you to do the same back.  He is at a really fun age learning new words all the time.   He is also really into “coloring” which equals scribbling alongside his sisters in a coloring book.  He will NOT be left out of this activity and it’s pretty cute to watch him be so big!

At the beginning of the month we celebrated Cinco de Mayo at our house with 3 other families and it was sure a full house, but we had delicious food and fun.  Thanks to everyone, we had everything from carne asada, guac and Brazilian limeade to sweet corn tomalito, chili’s chips and salsa, and nachos dulces.  Yum!  Lillian picked out a “Tangled” piñata and Jocelyn was pretty distraught when she came home from school exclaiming “the boys will NOT like that at all!”  I explained to her as long as the boys had a bat in their hand and were allowed to destroy something, they wouldn’t really care what it looked like (especially since they would be blindfolded).  It turned out this was the case, and they were more interested in what was inside rather than the outside.  All the little ones had a chance to hit the piñata before the big boys were allowed to go to town on it. We are looking forward to summer in a couple weeks here!!
