Kid Update-For the Grandmas

This is a detailed update on all the kids and will probably bore anyone who isn't a grandparent to said kids, but here it goes. More for my journaling than anything!
Jonas doing Lilly's silverware chore

Lately when I call Lilly in to do her chore, Jonas will come running in the kitchen with his hand up yelling: "Me, Me!" so he can try to do the chore.  Lilly definitely encourages this until I tell her she needs to do a different chore if Jonas does her chore...Jonas has also been really into “jokes” and understanding what is funny.  He’ll often tell us “Dad funny” or “Lilly funny” if they are teasing or making a joke.  For instance, one day he told me a series of jokes along the lines of “I punch lamp and lamp wants a bandaid!  Ha ha” or “I punch Lilly and she wants transformers bandaid! Ha ha.” because obviously a lamp doesn’t need a bandaid and Lilly obviously chooses a princess bandaid every time, not a hero-themed bandaid.   When you tell him “I love you” he responds with “NO, I love YOU!”  with his finger pointing at you and then likes to play that game back and forth until you change who the person is to “I love Daddy” instead of “No, I love YOU!”
Jonas has been into Transformers lately, with Jared's encouragement and re-discovered this in the dress up clothes

Jonas is talking a ton and I told Jared even though I love it, it makes the opinions in my strong-willed children more evident and forceful.  I took out a pair of his socks one day (all of his socks are the same…for ease, I just get the white tube socks that have a bazillion pairs in one package) and he tells me “No, mom!! Not THAT pair” so I get out another (identical) pair and ask “Oh, this pair?”  Joking around, to which he responds “Yeah, that pair!”  Aye Aye Aye!  I’m not allowed to zip up his pajamas, help him into his booster seat or open a door so we are fully living in terrible two land again.

He melts my heart every day with his sweet and generous nature and his good manners and he dotes on little Emma saying “Her’s cute!”  and gently touching her and telling me her status update throughout the day.    I’ve also determined that my main role in life right now is to cock a nerf gun on behalf of Jonas about every 30-50 seconds throughout the day.  Jonas loves shooting the nerf darts and can successfully load and shoot the gun, but he doesn’t have the strength and coordination to cock it.  Jared was home in the evening one day when he was elected as the designated “gun cocker” and after about 30 minutes mumbled something about “hiding that gun” (of which we have four).  To which I had to respond: “you’ve only been doing this for 30 minutes…try the past entire 3 days!”  Jonas is always wanting me to “fight him” with rolls of wrapping paper, or he gets a shield and a hammer and we have to rotate roles of the attacker and the defender.  I’ll tell you what, boys are a different breed than girls!
Lilly before church one day

Lillian as Mary, Emma as baby Jesus
Lillian is totally taken with Emma.  I get a status update from her about every 20 minutes throughout the day.  “Mom!  Emma is __________"  Fill in the blank with sleeping, eating, crying, opening her eyes, etc.  Even if I’m the one feeding her or holding her and know perfectly well what she may or may not be doing!  I always just tell Lilly I’m so glad she’s keeping track of her, and remind her that she needs to be a good example because Emma is always watching what she is doing too.  The other night Jared was helping Lillian say the family prayer before bed (at her request, even though she can do it on her own) and after Jared would say a line, Lilly would SING the line.  It was all I could do to refrain from laughing as I was nursing Emma in the corner.  Lillian just has so much personality that she can’t keep it contained!  She is very excited to see Santa tonight at the Christmas party at church tonight and is excited to see my parent’s dog this weekend and has a Christmas gift picked out to take to him.
Missing 3 front teeth
Gingerbread master at work
Jocelyn was already missing one of her front teeth on the bottom and one on the top, but she lost her other front tooth last weekend and was so excited to see the song “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth!” that we showed her on you tube.  She felt like the song had been written for her.  She is very excited to go to my parent’s house this weekend to attend the baptism of her good friend, Sweetpea, and say the opening prayer during the baptism.  She passed her first quarter of kindergarten with flying colors and her teacher told me she’s doing fabulous and had a glowing report of what a great student she is.  It made me happy to hear all that since she can give me a run for my money as a mom more often than not!
Emma at 5 weeks
Jared getting Emma ready for bed
Emma is not the best sleeper in the world as she seems to like being right next to someone (which translates into sleeping in bed with us so I’m not sleeping as soundly), or in her swing and she doesn’t like having the lights off.  She can be in a dead sleep and when you turn the lamp off, even if you don’t move her at all, she almost immediately starts crying and will calm down if you turn the lights back on.  She has grown up so much already and we just love having her as part of our family.  Even if her needs get put on the back burner while I am attending to other emergencies with the other kids or trying to run errands when she just wants held, she is a good sport.  She has started smiling with a purpose, but of course we haven’t been able to capture it on video or camera because by the time I run to get the camera or pull out my phone, the smile has passed.
