Yes, now that labor day is almost here, I am going to attempt to catch up the blog with our summer adventures! I believe we left off with Memorial Day...
We were lucky enough to have my parents come into town and between hitting up a patriotic memorial service at a local cemetery, the sidewalk sales at the outlets and going out to breakfast we had a good weekend. Here are some of the highlights

We also finished up the school year with some performances and adventures. Some of these are phone pictures so you will have to excuse the quality. The girls had their year end dance "skill showcase." Lillian's kindergarten class had their end of year performance highlighted with songs about bugs and gardening. We also helped rescue a baby bird that fell out a nest at our friend's house. The poor thing was a nestling and the kids were so thrilled to be able to see the baby return to the nest. On the way home Jocelyn suggested we call a reporter to tell them what a great thing they had done. She was sure she would make front page of the newspaper!

Jonas also had some fun adventures. He was assigned to give his first talk in front of the primary kids (ages 3-11) at church and he did an awesome job. The practicing all week was not very smooth and he kept telling me he was not wanting to give a talk, but when the time came he stood up on the stage and was able to give the talk with my help. I was pleased it went that smooth. Grandpa and Nana were even in town to listen to him. Jonas is, naturally, very taken by fire trucks and the like and one day when we were driving to pick up the girls from school we happened to be next to a fire truck waiting at a red light. I rolled down his window at his request and he waved at the fire truck driver who proceeded to honk his horn for him. Jonas was absolutely thrilled and it just makes life exciting when such simple things can make your day like that!

After being inspired by my sister Emily's example, last spring I put together a Family Home Evening packet swap group where a group of friends would meet at my house once a month for a potluck lunch and trade around Lessons that we had prepared. I would make 9 copies of my particular lesson, as would everyone else and then take home 9 different lessons after we traded around. It has been a fun thing to do and we have a lot of "go-to" lessons to pull from that even the older kids can manage on their own.
