Too big for her britches

Lillian, at 21 months, has now moved from the crib into a "big girl bed" at her insistence. She kept asking to sleep in Jocelyn's bed during her naps when Jocelyn wasn't in there and often requested it at night time too. The girls, on a couple different occasions, gathered a bunch of blankets in a nest on the floor and told me they wanted to have a "sleepover" so we let them a couple nights in a row and Lillian did fine without her crib. I finally realized, well, maybe she's ready to move up in the world so when I asked her she said "yes!"
We pulled out the twin bed we had in storage for Jocelyn and packed away the crib, but the problem was that we didn't have any cute or coordinating decor for their bedroom. The house is going on the market next week with several open houses, etc. so I wanted to have it look at least decent with a million people walking through the house. I decided to go ahead and sew two twin duvet covers and bed skirts so that it will be all ready when Lillian moves up to a twin bed, and for now it at least coordinates with the toddler bedding. Thanks to my mom, I went shopping while we were visiting there last week and had coupons so that everything was 50% off. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out, as I made some coordinating valances and decorative pillows as well. Lillian doesn't look happy in the picture of her in bed, but that was because she thought I was putting her down for bed since she had already bathed and gotten into her jammies. I kept telling her it was just for the picture, but apparently she didn't believe me and thought I was putting her down for an early bed time. I sure love this little girl-she is so sweet and kind, even though she is definitely getting to the independent stage. She is always telling me "my turn" meaning she wants to do something by herself!

  1. Go you. That all looks great! And I still can't believe Lilly is in a big bed. I just showed Addi these pictures and told her about how both of your girls were in bigger beds and she said, "Wow, that's pretty impressive." Funny girl. I wish they could all play together.

  2. Whoa talented! I just walked through a fabric store wishing I had something to make with all the cute fabrics that were available. Hope you are feeling well!

  3. I can't believe you made all that yourself. WOW. My sisters are so talented. I think my only talent right now is making a million phone calls to coordinate our travels and making sure everyone has their shots and doctors and dentist appointments taken care of! Not as cute and cool as making bedding.

  4. The bedroom looks great! That doesn't surprise me at all. That is cute that Lilly wanted out of the crib and into her own bed.
