Lillian has started to draw life forms in the past few months. Being the faithful Daddy's girl that she is, she says most of them are Daddy. She has also been dressing herself for the past couple months, and buckles her own seat belt. She is extremely proud of herself and gets very angry if you try to help her, even if something is on backwards or inside out. I have been working on my patience, but I have a long way to go. If you're 2 or 3 years old, buckling your own seat belt and getting yourself dressed aren't very conducive to getting out of the house quickly in the morning :)
Story #1
Jocelyn was hiccuping one day and she really doesn’t like to hiccup so she asked me to help her stop. She has brought this up before and we’ve tried the drinking water upside down trick or me jumping out and scaring her to startle the hiccups away, etc. but those never seem to work. I remembered that my old English teacher in H.S. would pull out a $20 in class when someone was hiccuping and tell them she would give it to them if they could hiccup just one more time. It worked wonders. The hiccuping would stop immediately (I guess it’s a mental thing), the teacher never had to pay up and the interruption of the class would stop. I thought…hmmm. …Maybe this would work with Jocelyn? I took a $1 bill out of my purse (because that’s about all I ever seem to have) and told her I would take her to the dollar store to spend it if she could just hiccup one more time for me. She got so excited and tried with all her might to hiccup once more but to no avail. She got so mad at me and ended up crying to Jared and carrying on about how I was so mean. I’m not going to lie, it was pretty comical. I wasn’t trying to be mean! She had, after all, asked for my help in getting rid of the hiccups and I, after all, had delivered. So the next time she was hiccuping (within a couple weeks of the 1st incident) she asked me to do the same trick again. I did the same trick and this time her hiccups didn’t stop. Love does conquer all!! She loves the dollar store and the sheer wonder of picking out whatever one item she wants in the whole store. She’s so funny about how she picks several items, deliberating and debating on which one will be the best (as if she’s never coming back again, ever) and finally makes a decision on her one item. Lillian, on the other hand, will march right in the store, pick out an item in record time and never turn back. She rarely, if ever, gets persuaded to even look at more items, much less change her mind about her chosen item. Those girls never cease to amaze me how different they are…They do come with their own personalities, don’t they?

Story #2
I was at JoAnn’s waiting in the fabric cutting line for some project or another and the girls were waiting near me where they had a display of these licensed character fabrics. On the right were the pink princess, fancy nancy, etc. fabrics while on the left were the John Deere tractors, Cars, and Super Hero ones. The girls were immediately drawn to the right and gushed about “how cute, how precious, how fancy” the girl fabrics were. Then Jocelyn says “hey, Lilly, let’s pretend we’re boys now!” and they step to the left and in a deeper voice say something to the effect of “oh, cool, look at those tough cars” to which Lilly responds “yeah” and they leave it at that. The worker helping me at the counter just burst out laughing at the exchange between these two. She said “I think they have it all figured out. I raised a couple boys and a couple girls and that pretty much sums it up!” Where do they get all this stuff? They keep me entertained for sure…
And here are a couple of Jocelyn's 5 year old pictures we had taken. One of these days I'll have a talented photographer with an artistic eye take pictures, but for now, the $5.45 package is bailing me out. It's easy and predictable and we are done in less than an hour :)
Cute pictures of Jocelyn but hey does she have something on her face. Hee hee.
