Pirate Princess Party

We had quite a celebration this morning: a combined birthday for the girls.  Both Jocelyn and Lillian invited a few friends over for a Pirate Princess Party.  The girls said they wanted everyone to be in costume and that they wanted a fancy cake.  I think we were able to deliver on both :)

Lillian turned 3 a few weeks ago and Jocelyn will turn 5 in a few weeks.  Since we were out of town during Lilly's birthday (and Jared had the flu that day and we were leaving to go camping that morning) we decided to postpone the celebration.  Since I try, when possible, to work smarter not harder we decided to celebrate both of the girls birthdays together.  It was great.  It reduced jealousy, costs, effort, cleaning, cakes, you name it!  I'm going to ride this train as long as I can...

For the entertainment Jared shot off his air pressure bottle rocket that he made for his scouts and we had anyone who wanted to "walk the plank."  In between lunch and cake the boys entertained themselves by cutting down all the streamers with the pirate swords while the girls had a tea party upstairs and made "ice cream sundaes" with one of the birthday gifts.  It cracks me up how all the "gender" stuff just seems innate.  It's not like we split them up and told the boys to be destructive and the girls to make food and sit down and chat!  They just gravitate to those activities and ideas on their own.
