So much "Injury" & Turning the big 3-0

So much "injury"
On New Year's Day, Jared was able to stay home from work but, unfortunately, he and Jocelyn were both sick so we took it easy.  Poor Lillian was so bored by the end of the day, even though I had her helping me with several cleaning projects throughout the day.  She told us: I just have so much “injury” (meaning “energy”).  Jared put a bunch of blocks at the top of the stairs and a basket at the bottom of the stairs and told her to run up, grab one block at a time and put it in the basket then repeat over and over and over.  It helped her a little but she was still carrying on telling us how much “injury” she had.

Best thing I did for myself over Christmas break:
Before Christmas my friend Tami and I exchanged several freezer meals so we both ended up with about a dozen meals to just pull out of the freezer. It was so great to be able to bust one of those out so we didn’t have to worry about cooking so much over the break.  It was so great, in fact, that we decided to swap again, only this time with 10 meals each (20 in the freezer once we swap) so I’ve been working on those this week.  It’s like having money in the bank and makes me feel excited!
I'm officially a mom
I guess it’s bound to happen since I’m a mom now, but I am often mixing up my kid’s names.  Especially since I have Jared Jocelyn & Jonas all beginning with J’s, but anyhow… The girls do NOT appreciate when I mix them up (I try to help them realize the wrong name comes out of my mouth, even though I know who I am talking to), so last week Jocelyn decided to make all the kids nametags to wear so I wouldn’t mix them up anymore.  Jonas’ name tag lasted a whopping 15 seconds until he tore it off, Lillian’s only 15 minutes until she changed into a new dress up outfit, and Jocelyn’s only slightly longer, but hey, it was worth the try, right?
The Big 3-0
I turned 30 this month.  It wasn’t as shocking or earth shaking as one might think.  My friend warned me that she cried when she turned 30.  Jared asked me: “Are you going to cry?” when learning this.  I told him “How was I to know?  Sometimes these things just hit you!”  I think the bottom line is that I am happy with where I am and where my life choices have taken me so I am happy with turning 30. I have accomplished a lot in the last decade, I don’t have any regrets at this age, and I look forward to the next decade.  Hopefully I can say the same thing at 40!

Since my birthday was on a Saturday I really did get spoiled as Jared tried to change most of the poopy diapers, entertain and feed kids, and do the dishes. That was my one request: I didn’t want to do any dishes!  I told him I didn’t care how that was accomplished, I just didn’t want to touch a dish.  He definitely delivered!  He and the girls decorated, went and picked up some breakfast, he made lunch and dinner for the kids, and then took me out to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory.  The Godiva chocolate brownie sundae dessert was absolutely divine!  Jared also invited a few families over for some ice cream cake that he made on Sunday evening and it was fun to have a gathering with close friends. Good food and good friends just can't be beat!  (When family is too far away to join us).

  1. The name tag thing is hilarious, I could totally see Addi doing that. They are going to have lots of fun playing together.

  2. Ah, Cait! You handled the 3-0 with endless grace. You make for a tough act to follow! I wish I could have been there like last year... Maybe for our 40th birthdays!
I watched the Jonas-toothbrush vid and let me tell you: HE'S a BEAST! I swear he's as big as Maxwell who's 21 months!
(Oh, and don't feel one ounce of bad about the name mix ups- I have called Bjarni *Mom* more than once and last weekend I called my mother in law *Honey*!!!)
Glad you didn't touch a dish... Here's to simple pleasures, right?
    Love,
