Emma Baby Blessing & Kicking off the New Year

Emma with the traditional blessing blanket and the cute headband from aunt Kristina
At the end of December we were able to take a quick trip to Dixon to visit with friends who were in town as well as family.  We were contemplating whether to stay home and try to work on a house project and have Emma's baby blessing here (having my parents and brother/aunt & uncle travel down) or go to Dixon and see some old friends.  It sealed the deal when my brother and his wife (and new baby) from Idaho called and said the weather was cooperating and they were headed out to CA.  We left within a couple hours and met them at my parent's house.  It was so fun to meet their little baby Florin and to visit with them.  We also celebrated my mom's birthday and had Emma's baby blessing at my parent's house.

We really missed having Jared's family there for the blessing, but circumstances didn't allow since they were just here visiting at Thanksgiving, and we didn't have our act together by then.  And, we messed up on the night of the blessing and didn't conference call them in.  Jared gave a beautiful blessing and I even had notes that Tausha so kindly recorded for me BUT I have temporarily misplaced them and hope I find them soon! And, of course, I am still trying to figure out our new camera and the one picture I had with Jared and I and Emma turned out blurry, so here we are holding her separately...

As usual, I gave my baby a haircut at 2 mos. when the bald spot starts to appear in the back and she has a mullet combined with a comb-over and I just can't take it anymore!  It looks much better now and she can sport her headbands in style.

My brother, Brian, needed a haircut too, and was a good sport to let my girls and their friends cut it for him.  They continued on and did a whole beauty shop and dress up afterward much to their delight!  Here they are with the finished product.  The girls also picked lemons from my parent’s tree and made lemonade (well, actually, Nana made the lemonade while they made a mess, I think) and then proceeded to set up a lemonade stand and try to sell it for $10 a cup.  We talked them down on the price, but they were very thrilled when Nana pulled out a bunch of dimes, nickels and even quarters for us to all buy some lemonade.

It was so fun to see the two babies together and it made me want to meet my other little nephew born in November.  On the night we both arrived at my parent's house Emma was wearing a nightgown that had "Thank heaven for little girls" stitched on it and Florin was wearing a shirt that said "Boys Rule" which my girls couldn't get over!  It was pretty fitting.

When we came back home, we were able to catch up on laundry, cleaning and fit a couple fun days in.

For New Year’s Eve Jared and I (and Emma) went to a friend’s birthday party and got a babysitter for the older three kids.  Jocelyn was so upset telling us how “holidays are meant to spend with family and you’re just leaving us!” even though I reminded her of the bazillion birthday parties she has been to without me.  She “didn’t want the babysitter, wasn’t going to be good for her, etc. etc.”  Well, wouldn’t you know it, when we asked her about the babysitter afterward she told us “She was so great, can we get her as a babysitter every time?”  Aye aye aye .

On New Year’s Day we had Jared’s co-worker and his family over for lunch and hanging out for the afternoon.  We used to live near them when we were in Watsonville and I’ve missed seeing them on a regular basis.  It was so great to see them again.  We weren’t very good at getting pictures with them, but here are some of the kids playing dress up, at least.

The kids and I also made it to the Children's Discovery museum and it was crazy busy and Jonas managed to sustain two really bad head injuries, but they said they had a lot of fun (their face paint, exhaustion, and soaking wet clothes verified this).  We also had our family friends, the Woolfords over for a combined dinner since the play date at the park was NOT ENOUGH for the kids!  I'm not sure if I'm ready for a school routine again, quite yet...vacation has been good to us.

A huge accomplishment during all of the holiday traveling and visitors at our house was that Jonas learned how to sleep in a "big boy bed" and we took down his crib!! We have tried to convince him and bribe him and coax him into this for a couple months and I was about to give up when he surprised us all!  yay!
